Land use and zoning attorneys represent businesses, homeowners, and property developers in challenging a municipality's zoning regulations and land use restrictions.

Zoning is the chief planning tool of local government to guide the future development of a community, protect neighborhoods, concentrate retail business and industry, channel traffic and play a major role in the enhancement of urban as well as small-town life. A city or county may restrict various geographic areas (zones) to certain uses and development, such as -

single-family residential multi-unit residential parks schools and other purposes

Land use and zoning attorneys also handle cases involving easements, which give one person limited rights to use land owned by another.

 

Attorney Andrew Hochberg is the chairman of the Richmond Zoning Board of Appeals and a member of the Berkshire County Regional Housing Authority.

Attorney Shaun T. Mahoney is a member of the Town of Lee Zoning Board of Appeals and has considerable experience as an intern at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's Office of Hearings and Mediation.
